KX250F (KX250T8F)
FEATURES AND BENEFITS:
ENGINE
High performance 4-stroke engine
DOHC with 4 titanium valves
produces a wide powerband with high torque and rpm.
Semi dry sump allows the engine
to be mounted lower in the frame reducing the centre of gravity and
eliminates the need for an external oil tank.
Digital
Acceleration Compensating Capacitor Discharge Ignition (AC-CDI)
A separate ignition map for
neutral gives quick starting and a stable idle when in neutral. A
second map is selected when a gear is engaged to reduce the engine
braking effect.
Smooth rev limiter performance
is achieved using lost spark control.
Ignition timing is optimised
through use of a throttle position sensor.
Fuel system
37 mm Keihin FCR carburettor
provides quick starting, good response and a wide powerband.
Hot start lever on the left
handlebar leans off the fuel mixture making starting a hot engine
quick and easy.
Exhaust system
Stepped titanium exhaust pipe is
lightweight and has that ‘factory’ look about it.
CHASSIS
Frame
The lightweight aluminium
perimeter frame is wider at the ankles to offer grip to the rider and
narrower further up for a slim riding position.
Works style Renthal straight
handlebars are used.
A works-style aluminium skid
plate is fitted as standard.
Inverted 47 mm
front fork
A twin chamber type fork with 16
way compression and rebound damping adjustment.
Uni-Trak® rear
suspension
Uni-Trak® offers superb traction
and smooth suspension action across the whole stroke in a lightweight
and compact suspension package.
13 way (low-speed), 2 turns
(high-speed) compression and 17 way rebound damping with spring
preload adjustment to tune suspension to all conditions.
Front and rear
petal disc brakes
Petal disc brakes reduce
unsprung weight and the wave shape helps clean the brake pads for more
efficient brake operation.
Solid petal discs are available
as an option for wet races.
CHANGES FROM 2007 MODEL
The Crankcases have
increased rigidity around the crankshaft area and around the input
shaft. In addition to increased reliability, the resultant reduction
in mechanical loss means more torque is transmitted to the rear wheel.
New design head gasket offers improved sealing
performance.
New engine mounts incorporating collars hold the
engine from a wider position (10mm further out). The resultant slight
decrease in torsional rigidity contributes to quicker turning in low
speed corners, increased rear traction and overall lighter feel.
Thicker kick leaver ratchet offers better lever
operation.
New gear shift lever is 3 higher to maximise shifting
performance and feel. This minute change offers riders more precise
adjustability.
In order to meet stricter exhaust noise regulations,
the silencer is revised and features a baffle pipe with a new punching
pattern. The new silencer features a new mounting bracket and
minimises power losses.
New muffler cap design facilitates reassembly when
replacing the wool packing. The baffle pipe and end cap can be
replaced individually.
Stronger subframe compliments the new muffler and a
new muffler stay bracket increases durability.
Revised suspension settings slightly alter the bikes
front/rear balance, contributing to quicker turning.
The front forks have smaller lateral holes in the fork
inner tanks resulting in more linear damping characteristics. Action
at the initial part of the stroke is also improved.
Thicker piston rods in the forks provide additional
rigidity and smoother mid-stroke action.
Revised rear suspension settings offer smoother
mid-stroke action and fine tune the bike's front/rear balance (giving
the rear a slightly raised feeling).
Slightly stiffer suspension settings improve bottoming
characteristics.
