The KLE500 is designed to
offer good all-round performance, great versatility and a dash of
style. Whether it's on or off road, the updated and refreshed KLE500
is ready to take on the challenge.
With a narrow chassis and wide
bars this bike is manoeuvrable and lithe. The 498cm3 parallel twin
water-cooled engine is tuned for rewarding low end power extending
into a strong mid-range, ideal for tricky roads and city streets
alike.
The liquid-cooled engine
breathes through eight valves, and because it's a twin cylinder unit
it produces more power and is smoother in its delivery than many
single-cylinder adventure motorcycles in the 650cc class.
The same design features also
help make it lighter, and give it more torque than bikes with four
cylinders, as well as helping to keep running and repair costs at
affordable levels.
Pipe catalysers are added to
each exhaust header pipe, plus a third in the manifold (three in
total) ensure that the KLE500 meets Euro-II emissions standards.
The up-to-date upper cowl and
Z1000 inspired headlamp and screen complement the new instruments,
colours and graphics to give the KLE500 a great new look.
Attractive turn signals
complement the KLE's new design. The instrument panel is unitised
within the inner cowl and incorporates the air ducts in the cowl.
Horizontal ducts on either side of the cowl create an 'air curtain'
which reduces wind buffeting at higher speeds and improves rider
comfort. This patented feature is available only from Kawasaki.
Seat cover has grippy side
material and a dimpled top for added grip when standing and increased
comfort when sitting.
The KLE has a very healthy 180
mm ground clearance and 220 mm wheel travel up front with 200 mm at
the rear, yet its 850 mm seat height means riders don't have to have
legs like giraffes to straddle the thing.
All of these traits, along with
a 21" front wheel and a 15 litre fuel tank, make it a superb
middleweight dual purpose tourer that can tackle the occasional
off-road foray with aplomb, and yet cruise on the highway all day in
comfort with a passenger.
